Dr. Damian Dechev is set to be the Department of Computer Science Chair. Dr. Dechev joins UH NSM from the University of Central Florida, where he served as Professor of Computer Science and founded the Algorithmic Research for Essential Asynchronous Computing (AREA 67) Lab.
Publications
Dr. Ding-Shyue (Jerry) Yang, professor of chemistry, worked on a publication that was accepted by Physical Review Letters (DOI: 10.1103/rj4r-2vrf). This unique study provides atomic-level visualization of ultrafast energy transport across multi-component molecular junctions, offering direct evidence that chemically bonded molecules significantly alter the light-induced motions of supporting substrate surface atoms, contrary to traditional assumptions that they behave like unbonded surfaces. Led by first author Md. Shahriar H. Shuvo, who spearheaded the work’s finalization, the research also builds on foundational data and analysis from former postdoctoral scholar Dr. Xing He and former graduate student Dr. Mithun Ghosh.
