Julia Wellner appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs
Julia Wellner, professor of glacial and marine geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, has been named associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, effective Aug. 12.
Wellner, who joined UH in 2006, previously served as associate chair of her department from 2019–2025. In her new role, she will oversee faculty hiring and promotion processes, professional development programming, and initiatives supporting faculty retention and recognition across NSM’s six departments.
An Antarctic researcher and experienced academic leader, Wellner brings extensive experience managing large research teams, mentoring early-career scientists, and fostering inclusion in STEM. She will continue teaching and mentoring students in EAS.
