NSM Movie Night: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Feb 17
You’re invited to join us for NSM Movie Night on Thursday, February 17, from 6:30–9:15 pm. Last call for registration to attend!
What would you do if your cells were taken without your knowledge and used to fuel an entire chapter of scientific evolution, complete with new experiments and discoveries? That’s what happened to Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman from Virginia who visited Johns Hopkins for cervical cancer treatment. Dr. Tasneem Bawa-Khalfe, assistant professor of biology and biochemistry, and Dr. Linda Reed, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences associate professor of African-American history, will walk us through Henrietta’s incredible story. Cougar Ally Training (RSVP Required) - Feb 25
The next Cougar Ally Training will be held Friday, February 25, from 1–4:30 pm.
Training assists faculty, staff, and students in increasing their awareness of issues that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people face. In a non-threatening setting, CAT teaches participants to create an accepting campus environment for UH’s LGBTQ population. Allies are given a placard to display as a visible statement of support for the LGBTQ community.
Registration required.
