Office of Research Update

New Proposal Submissions

In June, NSM faculty submitted 40 research proposals (including 9 to NSF, 9 to NIH, 6 to CPRIT, 5 to NASA, and 4 to Dunn Foundation) totaling over $21M in funds.

Awarded Research Grants

Margaret Cheung (Physics) was awarded a $1.131M grant from the NIH National Institute of General Medical Science: “Principles for Tuning Target Selectivity in Signaling Proteins.”

Thomas Teets (Chemistry) was awarded a $573K grant from U.S. Army Research Laboratory: “Polynuclear Chromophoric Coordination Complexes for Sensor Protection.”

Don Coltart (Chemistry) was awarded a $450K grant from the NSF: “Development of Novel Stereocontrolled Synthetic Methods Using Hydroxy and Amino-Azoalkenes.”

Di Chen (Physics) was awarded a $40K grant from Battle Energy Alliance: “Ion Irradiation of Stainless Steels Processed by Equal Channel Angular Pressing.”

Faculty Patents

Robert Schwartz, John Craft, Steven Bark, Jim Briggs, Robert Fox, and Hua Zhang (all Biology & Biochemistry), and Scott Gilbertson (Chemistry) with Reza Abbasgholizadeh (M.D. Anderson Cancer Center) and Kevin MacKenzie (Baylor College of Medicine): “RHO Associated Kinase (Rock) Inhibitors and Their Use in Treating Disease.” U.S. Patent Number: 10,335,449.
