Transition to Canvas: Important Dates
Blackboard will be phased out on May 31. Canvas will be the online Learning Management System (LMS) going forward beginning with the Summer 2023 courses. Users are encouraged to view the timeline below, which illustrates the current Canvas rollout schedule.
March 2023
- Summer mini and summer courses on Canvas can be requested through the Course Request System (CRS).
- Instructors scheduled to teach Fall courses who wish to gain early access to Canvas can request Canvas Development (DEV)* course shells. Development shells are not strictly necessary, but they provide instructors with an opportunity to become familiar with the system. Development courses are intended to build/develop courses and do not contain students.
April 2023
Fall Courses can be requested through the Course Request System (CRS) from April 2023 onwards.
May 2023
The last day to view a Blackboard course is May 31, 2023. For more information on the Canvas Transition, see “Preparing your Course for Canvas Migration.”
June 2023
- From June 1, 2023, Blackboard Learn will no longer be available to users.
- Please encourage students to finish their “incomplete” before June 1, 2023. Work due after June 1 must be in Canvas, or through some alternate arrangement with the instructor.
- By June 1, 2023, special courses must be transitioned.
August 2023
All Fall 2023 courses will be offered only in Canvas.
Visit the Faculty Help for Canvas site and the NSM Canvas Resources for details on the switch to Canvas.
