Digital Accessibility Standards and Canvas Ally
Digital accessibility is now mandated at both the state and federal levels. All teaching materials posted online must meet standards for digital accessibility regardless of whether you have a student with relevant accommodations in your class.
To check your accessibility score, go to the left-hand menu on your Canvas course page and click on “Ally Course Accessibility Report.” It will provide your current score, and it will open a dashboard that will guide you to any content that needs some work. Your overall score will be in the top banner for the page.
Self-Guided Resources Available
- Digital Accessibility website for System-wide access to accessibility resources.
- Access a Canvas Accessibility course in your faculty Canvas profile.
- Additional courses available through AccessUH PASS training request (course keywords “Digital Access.”)
To aid you in getting your course scores to where they need to be, Andrea Arias-Rodriguez and Ngozi Onwuama have created a dedicated site where professors can easily book an appointment – Canvas Course Accessibility Office Hours.
