Jim Briggs to Serve as UH’s Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs
Congratulations to Jim Briggs, NSM’s Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs! He has been selected as UH’s Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs.
In this role, he will support the recruitment, hiring, orientation, professional development, recognition, promotion, and tenure of faculty. He begins his new role on July 1.
In addition to his service to NSM as associate dean since 2016, Briggs is a veteran academic leader, noted scholar, and professor of biochemistry. Throughout his time at UH, he has held leadership positions within NSM, the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, and the Faculty Senate.
As NSM’s first Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, he managed the College’s faculty hiring, promotion and tenure review, by-law modifications, faculty grievance mitigation, and policy development and implementation streamlining. His efforts have laid an excellent foundation for future NSM associate deans for faculty affairs.
He will be missed in NSM but will certainly be a strong asset to the Provost’s Office team.
Briggs is stepping into the role previously held by Mark Clarke, who is returning to his faculty role as an associate professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ Department of Health and Human Performance.
