Fall 2203 Recruitment Efforts

The Office of First Year Programs (OFYP) and NSM Student Leadership Ambassadors attended 10 Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers College Fairs in the Houston area this month to recruit students for admissions for Fall 2023. The OFYP will also host recruiting sessions for two UH Cougar Preview events in the upcoming weeks. In addition, the NSM Student Leaders have given presentations and led tours for Corpus Christi and Deer Park High School juniors and seniors during their campus visits. OFYP aims to increase the number of admitted and enrolled students by 2% over the Fall 2022 number.

Student Leadership Activities

  • An Emotional Intelligence Workshop was held for the student mentorship program. CAPS led a presentation on emotional intelligence which was well received by the students.
  • Study Nights continue to be held to provide support for students in the gateway introductory courses including Calculus 1 and Fundamentals of Chemistry 1. The study nights were led by SEP and Student Leadership Program peer mentors who walked students through a mock exam using materials provided by SEP.
  • A Freshmen Mentee social event was held to help the mentees get acclimated to NSM. The students spent two hours playing games and socializing with their mentors and Student Leaders.
  • NSM Game Night was held to help build a sense of community in NSM. It was an energy-filled event which brought out the competitive spirit of the students as they engaged in trivia and minute-to-win-it style games.
