New Internal Funding Program to Enhance Multicultural Success
The Texas Legislature has provided $1.2 million in special line item funding in FY20 for student-oriented programs that enhance multicultural success at the University of Houston. The Provost’s Office is asking for related proposals by September 30, 2019.
Individual colleges may submit one large proposal for $80K or multiple smaller proposals. However, multiple proposals from an individual college must be submitted as a package of proposals not to exceed $80K.
All proposals must include a narrative describing the initiative, goals, proposed measurable outcomes, a timeline for carrying out the initiative, and an itemized budget.
The Provost will consider proposals for the following activities:
- Improving academic outcomes in minority communities (e.g., high school graduation/college enrollment rates);
- Community engagement (e.g., lectures, festivals, and cultural events);
- Scholarly research (e.g., symposiums, publications, and scholars-in-residence);
- Professional development (e.g., internships, certification programs, mentoring, etc.);
- Academic enrichment (e.g., courses, study abroad, etc.).
All requests should be submitted to the Provost no later than September 30, 2019.
The following procurements are NOT allowed on special line item funds:
- Food or beverage of any kind (except for travel meals)
- Tips or gratuity, including tips for travel meals or taxis
- Other entertainment expenses
- Decorative plants
- Personal gifts or expenditures
- Expenses related to student travel
- Out-of-state student recruitment
Assistant Deans Donna Pattison (dpattison@uh.edu) and Donna Stokes (dstokes@uh.edu) will coordinate the proposal submission from NSM. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please contact one or both of them for details.
