About the Event and Speaker
Robert D. Bullard is known as the father of environmental justice.
In 2020, he was awarded the UN Champion of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award (related short video), the UN’s highest environmental honor. In 2008, Newsweek named Bullard one of 13 Environmental Leaders of the Century. He was elected to join the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2022.
In this free lecture, Bullard will use examples from his research on Houston, the Gulf Coast, and beyond to show how race and class still map closely with pollution, unequal protection, and vulnerability. Reducing environmental, health, economic, and racial disparities is a major priority in the ongoing quest for environmental and climate justice.
