Presidential Frontier Faculty Program

UH President Renu Khator instituted a new faculty hiring program entitled “The Presidential Frontier Faculty” (PFF) program. This is an aggressive commitment to hire up to 100 NEW faculty lines. The goal is to increase research expenditures as well as other metrics for elevating UH into the top 50 Association of American Universities.

This program was jointly developed by our Provost and Vice President for Research. Funds have been allocated for salaries and startup packages.

The program was announced in mid-July 2021 with a request for proposals to each of the colleges. NSM submitted eight proposals requesting the hiring of nine new faculty.

After an extensive review process that included submitting required revisions, NSM was awarded FIVE of these initial PFF positions. These five hires equate to FOUR FTE’s (FTE = full-time equivalent) since three of the positions are split with other colleges, as detailed below.

ALL of these positions are at the Assistant Professor level and are currently posted and accepting applications. Open faculty positions can always be viewed at jobs.uh.edu.

The unselected PFF proposals are being held in reserve for potential future PFF hiring. The College expects to have the opportunity to submit revised proposals for future years of the program.

The PFF faculty will benefit from mentoring programs, collaboration workshops, proposal development training, networking events, and visits to federal funding agencies. The success of these searches and the program will require us to work hard during recruitment, onboarding, and the pre-tenure time of the newly hired faculty.
