NSM Video: Hidden Life of Houston
Discover the wild animals living in the Houston area, thanks to cameras set up by student researchers. Ann Cheek’s students are participating in undergraduate research through the Hidden Life of Houston project. The project began in spring 2020.
Students set up trail cameras at 25 different sites around Houston, ranging from the Houston Arboretum and Memorial Park to Shasta’s Prairie on the UH campus, to the UH Coastal Center in La Marque. They work with the cameras in January, April, July, and October. As they collect data on urban wildlife, they propose their own research questions. The Provost’s Multicultural Success Initiative funded the purchase of 25 cameras and provides funding for peer mentors.
